Karnataka is the only state of India with 5,765 public charging stations across the state. This achievement showed the state’s strong commitment towards Electric mobility, says the energy minister.
Karnataka is the top and number one state with 5,765 public electric vehicles charging stations. As per the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), about 85% of these stations (4,462) are in Bengaluru Urban district.
As per the BEE report, Maharashtra stands in 2nd place with 3,728 charging stations and Uttar Pradesh (1,989 stations) and Delhi (1,941 stations) are available respectively.
“Karnataka has set a new benchmark in the nation with 5,765 public EV charging stations. This achievement underscores the State’s strong commitment to advancing electric mobility. The strategic initiatives and policies implemented by the state reflect a concerted effort to build a robust EV infrastructure and promote sustainable transportation,” said Energy Minister K.J. George.
All the public electric vehicles charging stations have been set up by the funded of the Union government’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company’s (Bescom) investments, and green cess funds from the State Transport Department and public-private partnerships (PPP).
In 2017, Karnataka was 1st to introduce the EV policy. Now the state is working on a significant EV adaptation and infrastructure to boost the EV environment across the state. In 2024, the government of Karnataka is committed to set up 2,500 new EV charging stations across the state via the PPP model.
