Cabinet deploy 10,000 e-buses in 169 cities for ‘PM-eBus Sewa’

The Central Government approved Rs 20,000 Crore rupees for 10,000 e-buses out of 57,613 Crore. The remaining amount will be provided by the respective state government.

The cabinet , chaired by prime minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved Rs 57,613 Crore PM e-buses sewa initiative to augment the use of electric buses in 169 cities. 

Cabinet minister, Anurag Thakur, sports and youth affairs and information and broadcasting, said,” A total of Rs 57,615 Crore will be spent to get around Rs 10,000 new electric buses.”

All the electric buses will be used for inter city buses and city to city buses. These buses will be organised by a private company. 

For these buses, Rs 57,613 Crore is needed where the central government will provide Rs 20,000 Crore and remaining Rs37,613 Crore rupees will be provided by the government. 

This scheme will be approved by those cities whose population is above 3,00,000 according to the census 2011. 

The government selected capital cities, union territories, hill areas like the NorthEast region. This project will be run by a public partnership model.
