The government official stated that they ordered 921 non AC Tata electric buses for Bengaluru by March 2024 as a part of the Centre’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME-ll) scheme.

On 28 July, Karnataka transport minister Ramalinga Reddy flagged off the 12 meter long electric buses at BMTC headquarters in Shanti Nagar. The minister said that they will buy 4000 electric buses for all road transport in Bengaluru, including KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC. The government has allocated Rs 500 Cr to the corporation for the procurement of electric buses. For these electric buses they will hire 13,000 employees, as there was no recruitment since 2016.

Although Tata buses are facing some problems frequently in Delhi. Reddy assured that they would closely monitor the buses performance. ” BMTC will pay on a per km basis. If it does not run, we will not pay.” he said.

As per Shakti Mission, the government will provide free bus journeys for women in Bengaluru. As a result, there could be ridership from 30 lakh to 35 lakh.

BMTC needs about 1500 buses in Bengaluru. So, the government ordered 12 meter long, low floor electric buses for 25 passenger seats. The bus will run Rs 41 per Km and goes up to 200 km on a single charge.
